Although Brooklyn & Queens are a part of the same land mass, they are considered boroughs of New York City. When referring to Long Island, most will be speaking about Nassau & Suffolk counties; each of which have their own different attractions and atmosphere.
I myself grew up in a charming town on the rocky north shore which borders the Long Island Sound. However, my childhood summers were spent on the sandy beaches of the south shore and the Atlantic Ocean.
